No Wonder My Parents Never Went Out...

Okay, I have a question to ask. How much do you pay for a babysitter? I have had such varying answers that I don't know how much to pay. The other night Brett and I were out with several other couples and the subject of babysitters came up. When I told how much I paid, I got an "Oh I would never pay that much". Okay, so it's nice to be a really good payer, but if I knew the going rate was less maybe we would consider going out more often. Don't you just love to pay someone to watch t.v. and eat your food? Bradock goes to sleep by 7pm and you don't hear a sound out of him until 7am the next morning, so usually Bradock never even knows he had a sitter. Not that I'm complaining because I would pretty much pay whatever to enjoy a night out. So, for one child how much would you pay an hour?

We pay 6$ when we use our 17 year old and round up by the hour. Or 5$ if they are young. I think for you 3$ i good even $2.50hr. I know that is one big reason we never go out either. By the time you go to dinner and a movie and pay the sitter you have spent $100! I feel your pain! I don't know how people can go out once a week!

I haven't had a babysitter yet, but I remember getting paid $5 an hour for THREE kids. I imagine it's gone up since then, but this is a good question. I'll check back for more people's suggestions so I know for later!

I would pay 7 or 8 for a younger person. I pay more because I find someone from the institute that I REALLY like because I need 15 hrs a week for business stuff, errand time, and me time :). I like to keep the same person for a LONG time, I also feel like I have more leverage to expect them NOT to be watching t.v when I pay more. With a 4, 3 and 1 yr old the person has to be a little older...I dont know if any of that even helped:] Find a REALLY sweet, trustworthy young girl(if its just for date nights) and she should be fine w/ 6-8 $ an hr.

Maybe 7 when he is awake and 5 or 6 when he is sleeping:)

I've heard 5$ an hour per kid, but you can pay less if the kid is already asleep and all they have to do is sit there. Also I pay more for older wiser sitters, and less for the younger ones, unless they are awesome. And if the kid is older and self sufficient, it can be less too.

It sucks we have to be grown ups and think about this kind of stuff huh? I pay about 6$/hour and then usually round up. But I have two kids and they go to bed late so it's totally different than your situation. I personly like the yonger ones, because they seem to be more into playing with the kids and they still LOVE to babysit.

I pay $5/hr for Ellah. She's usually asleep most of the time. I think I would add $1 an hour more for each kid. Maybe when we're rich and famous I'll pay top dollar but for now I think this is in a good range.

Going out? What's that? It sounds wonderful. Sorry, I have absolutely no advice on the subject because my dear son doesn't go to bed until around nine and wakes up about a million times during the night! So, good luck with your research!

Jason and I $5 and hour and I like the younger girls better b/c they are more willing to play and not test or talk on the phone. I asked one little girl and she said she gets $1 an hour per kid. You could go 3 bucks and be fine for Braddock. If the girl doesn't like it then she'll obviously be busy the next time you ask and then you can up your prices.

Hey retard,
How about you pay nothing and have your sister watch your kid. Weeknights are better for me, but occasionally I could do a weekend. (Like the weekends I work) Remember I work right next to your house and I start at
5:00. I could spend the night and go to work the next day.

I would pay 3 dollars for one easy kid like Braddock. I pay 5 for the two of mine becasue like you said, after the kids go to bed they just sit there and watch tv. If I come home to a clean house then I may pay a little more.

I love this topic because I have often wondered the same thing. Dave, usually insists on paying $5 an hour but we only have one child and she is usually sleep most of the time too. One girl that we paid just about choked... so I think she was very happy. I think it also depends on the sitter. My sister has a girl come over that brings her own stuff. Each kid will do a craft. They will also play games, color, usually NO TV and will be in bed on time. That is worth the extra 1 or 2. Wow, after reading this I am starting to think that I am cheap. Honestly, if Dave didn't insist on the $5 an hour I would have done $3 an hour. I will be checking back to read more on this subject.

Anyways, I am glad to hear that you guys are doing good. Bradock, is so dang adorable. Man, he is such a good little sleeper how did you go that?

I bet you love being in town.... I would with gas at $3 a gallon and they are guessing it will be $4 soon, ouch. Well, luckily, Dave still has it work truck and I work from home still until next month. Yipee, I am going to try and stay home with Addysen. We are so excited for this new adjustment. Dave and I just got licensed to do foster care and foster to adopt with the state and we are excited and a little nervous about the future but know that the Lord will bless us.

Well, gotta run Addysen is into something. :) Have a great day.

I go back to Germany on Feb.15th. That's when Jonathan's training coarse is done. We have to move again to another town in Germany, so I will probably wait and get a job after we move. I have been doing hair at my apartment a little. How about you, how is your job going?

We pay ours $2.00 an hr per child, so $6.00 an hour...but when we have 4, $8.00 an hour....ouch!!! But with one child its hard because like any girl is going to come babysit for $2.00 an hr. But hey....babysitting Bradock sounds pretty easy & fun..where do I sign up?? lol

Hi! Kasey Turner just posted this on her blog and some people have made some good suggestions. I've never had to get a sitter so I don't have much advice but check hers out.

Awesome question. Dan and I don't go out much either 'cause we don't want to wear out our free babysitters. Grandma's don't seem to mind if you bring them over fed and ready for bed! :o) The couple times we've paid it's only been for like an hour and we paid them $5. I guess we're cheap too! My baby goes to bed at 7 too . . . maybe we should work out a trade! :o)

I love this post because that is a question that I always wonder too, so it was nice to see their responses! Your little guy is gettign so big! He is such a cutie! I saw your sister the other night at Outback, I wasnt sure if it was her at first because her hair was darker. Anyways, life is great for us. I dont think we are doing the dental school thing anymore. We applied this year and havent heard back from all the schools, but havent heard anything positive yet. We just wanted to give it a try for a year.... I dont know how people keep on trying and trying...I guess with two kids we just arent in the position for that now. Anyways, it is so fun to keep in touch with people throughout this blogging world.
