Artists

Both Bradock and Raylee won 3rd place ribbons (and a fun prize of $1) for their school artwork in the Payson Fair. Bradock's pic was of The Little Red Hen in a wheat field and Raylee painted a beautiful, red rose. She also brought home some other fun artwork from school which included a tiger and a duck. They were so proud to show off their pictures and couldn't wait to hit up the dollar store to spend their prize money:)

We also recently had parent teacher conference. Brett actually got to go with me to meet with Ms. Shipley to discuss Bradock. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about his behavior. Such a sweet and obedient kid. She did have some concerns about him academically. He really seems to lack confidence when in group settings and when completing tasks. She often sees that he looks at others and what they are doing or answering before feeling confident that he knows it. He is at a lower reading level (which we have really been working on and which he has improved greatly) and he pretty much goes to re-teach for most subjects. She feels he does a lot better on a one-on-one basis and would like to see if a smaller group setting would help. She is going to monitor him this next quarter and depending on how things go she may have him tested for learning disabilities. I know he is such a smart kid and when we are at home I see him have more confidence in doing homework and answering questions than when he is in the classroom. I really want him to feel confident in a group setting. I still feel strongly about retaining him in 1st grade for next year. I feel like he would just excel so much better knowing that he has had a year of similar work already. We will just have to wait and see.

Mrs. Dailey also said Raylee is doing great. She is getting much better at focusing and sitting still. She has so much energy and is so smart that she often wants to be Mother Hen and help all those who are around her. She catches on quickly to everything and Mrs. Daily feels very confident that she will be reading Junie B Jones books by the end of the year. She will also start going to advanced classes since she masters most subjects and could use more of a challenge.
It's sometimes difficult when working with Bradock and Raylee and Ray gets something quickly and then tries to answer for Bradock. I often have to tell her to be quiet so Bradock can answer. They both have their strengths and weaknesses but I just want them to always do their best and to have a lot of confidence in themselves. We will continue to work not that at home and hope that that confidence comes out at school...in a positive way:)
