A few months back we got word that the local fire dept was doing a grant for fire-wising homes and land. Basically the grant was a 90/10...we pay 10% of the cost to fire-wise and the fire dept pays the other 90%. Pretty awesome deal, huh? Well, we have been dying to clear some of our land anyways, so we jumped all over this. It has been quite a process, but after several inspections with the fire dept, a few estimates from local landscape companies and a requested address change from the county we finally got approved. I can't even begin to describe how different our land looks with all of the crazy shrubs cleared out. We finally have a decent driveway that can park several cars and a trailer now...hallelujah! Before we began the process Brett was having fun burning some the shrubbery and wood all by himself. After some complaints from neighbors and a visit from the fire dept he finally got a wood-burning permit, so my little pyromaniac was totally legit:)
