I have become completely obsessed with instagram and picframe. They are these awesome, free apps that make my pics way better than I ever could do by myself. Well, last week I joined in on the "Throwback Thursday" fun. I decided to go with a pic of my very first car...a yellow 1978 B-210 Datsun. I bought it for $500 and about 2 years later was able to sell it for $400. It was a beater car to a T. It was stick shift and only got up to about 50mph (if I was lucky). For some reason the horn sounded like a horn of a semi-truck and it had no working AC or heat. I used to carry an old boombox in my back seat (which was covered in a blanket because there really was no upholstery on it) so I could have some music. I always had to have extra batteries lying around, so the boombox wouldn't fail me too:) I always had to have someone push start me to get it going. That usually consisted of waking my sister up super early, so I could get to A-hour and then I would have a bunch of my guy friends at school push me, so I could get to work. From work I would always have one of the tire guys help me out and then back home again. My friends and I used to take it out "cruising" to stalk all the guys we liked (not very smart since everyone knew me by that car). I never cared if I got hit because it was made of steel and did more damage to anyone that rear-ended me at school or wherever. At the time I hated it, but looking back it was perfect. My kids will so be driving a beater car for their first car:)
Friday night we went down to the valley to hang out and go to Vada's baby blessing on Sunday. Of course, we squeezed in some shopping, swimming and family time. Here is a pic of Brett and I goofing around with our nephews, Grady and Carson. After accomplishing this awesome "tower" I found out that combined my nephews weigh 150lbs...holy mackerel no wonder my neck was sore the next two days:) I told Brett he had more help from the water than I did...poor excuse. I guess I need to build more muscle:) Here is Miss. V, Raylee and I on Vada's special blessing day. My sister made this adorable dress (which I didn't get pics of) and she looked so cute. I can't believe how much Vada looks like Sarah...nose and all:) She is such a sweet, cute baby and we love having her apart of the fam. As much fun as we had in the valley it was so nice to come back home to our cooler weather. I have become a wimp and definitely prefer our cool mountain breezes than the scorching heat. Since it is so nice out we usually like to have dinner outside. Last night I grilled some wild Hake (my new favorite fish) and roasted some asparagus, brussels sprouts and rosemary sweet potatoes. It was delish and the kids loved it too. I love that my kids like eating healthy and clean and actually request it. I am a total nerd, but it puts a smile on my face. Raylee always asks to eat what I'm eating and we usually share a dish when we go out to eat. Mr. B is definitely more picky and still doesn't really like meat or chicken. He seems to like fish ok, so I try and make sure he gets protein from other sources (rice/beans, eggs, peanut butter, protein shakes). Right now I am obsessed with all these fun, clean-eating blogs that I have found. These women inspire me to push my workouts harder, eat clean, and enjoy my new muscular physique. It's been really hard for me to build muscle and to eat enough clean food to do that. It's definitely a process, but little by little I am seeing improvements and progressing towards my goals. I also love that Brett has now been working out consistently for a few months now and eating much better (not on the clean-eating wagon yet) but making better and better choices. He is looking so good and I love that it has been his choice to do it and not me begging all the time...hey it only took 10 years:) Here is a pic of a salad I typically eat once (sometimes twice) a day. I got the recipe for the poppyseed dressing from littlebshealthyhabits.com and many of her other healthy, clean recipes. I typically eat every 2.5-3hrs and eat 5-6 meals each day. My meals consists of lean protein (chicken, fish, turkey, eggs), complex carbs (oatmeal, sweet potatoes, ezekiel bread/tortillas, beans, etc.), healthy fats (avocado, nut butters, coconut/grapeseed/olive oil) veggies, and a little fruit with my pre/post workout protein shake. I usually stick to lean proteins, fats, and veggies after 3pm...no starchy carbs after that time. Anyways, it's pretty simple and I love how good, clean food fuels my body and makes me feel energize and just good:) I certainly indulge every once in awhile, but for the most part eating clean is what makes me happy. I also love that my kids embrace this kind of food (for the most part) and like to make good food choices too. That doesn't mean they don't have goldfish and treats too, but the majority of their food is just like mine:)Tuesday, August 28, 2012
